PMU Fuel pump ???

Post by cturbo28 » Tue Mar 06, 2018 7:06 pm

I recently submitted an email for inquiring about tech support but will post here to see if I can get some support.

Basic issue:
ECU should control Fuel pump PWM
PMU when set to turn on pump only
While starting the car, the fuel pump does not operate.

Any suggestions on where to start. This system was set up by professional but I have the car now and will be figuring out this issues.

Thanks

Hi,

There is technote at the download section of the "https://www.ecumaster.com/products/pmu/" minisite.
"TECHNOTE: Configuring CAN BUS communication between EMU BLACK or EMU CAN and PMU16"

The technote describes communication between EMU and PMU16 over CANbus.

How do you want to calculate PWM DC of the fuel pump?

I can imagine to control Fuel Pump by load and RPM. It makes sense, if you have for example 2 huge pumps, and they will heat your fuel on low load on idle, because unused feul will return to tank, without any sense. But if you have higher fuel demand, you can load the pumps with full current, but most of the fuel will be used in the engine...... just idea why

I used it back in time just sequentaly. First pump running al time with running engine, and over 100kPa did switched the second pump. (Pump parael)

OK, here is the set up. Also the PWM signal should be coming from the ECU and I am only using the PMU as a relay to power it.

So The PMU will send power to the pump like a relay would.
The ECU sends the PWM to the Pump for priming which it does.
The ecu will send the PWM signal once the car is running.

Issue, The Fuel pump does not work while cranking, it is like it is in reverse. Also I can force the output to ON and it will work that way.

Hi,
(What ECU are you using?)

To use PWM you need to define "[x] PWM configuration" section off the "Power output". See attached screenshot.

From what I understand there are 4 symbols:
1. ECU FUEL PUMP DUTY - it's Duty Cycle of the pump (What range it has - 0..100? Why the divider is 81 - it looks suspicious...)
2. FUEL PUMP DEMAND - on/off signal for the pump (???)
3. FUEL PUMP OVERRIDE - not sure what is this -- not presented on your screens
4. MASTER POWER - master switch

If you will have further problems please record the Log file from the cranking and post it here. Please also post your Project file, as it's needed to open the Log file.
Log file can be saved by using "Diskette" icon in the Graph Log window.

What pump are you using?
Fuelab?

The ECU is a Syvecs S8 with a Fuel lab Fuel pump.

1. ECU FUEL PUMP DUTY -Yes 0 to 100
2. FUEL PUMP DEMAND - Yes this is the on/off
3. FUEL PUMP OVERRIDE - might be the override on the CAN button panel, it will turn the FP on with the button.
4. MASTER POWER - master switch Yes

Note: I am trying to use the ECU to control the Fuel pump PWM not the PMU. But I am not set in stone on that, this is how it was when I got the car back from the installer.

I also need to confirm the output on the ECU, I had it as a TTL which would run the pump 0= off 100= 100%, now it is on a Fuel output which is 0=100% and 100=off ( I need to confirm this if the new ECU acts like the old one I had) The old ECU was not TTL on the fuel put output.

I will try to get a log this week. I have some other things apart so I am a couple of days away from trying again, and I will try the PWM configuration as you stated. That makes since to me but I did not set this up so I will have to study up so I can answer more intelligently. At this time I am learning.

The PMU needs to know when to give the fuel pump 12V
On and off, PMU can not feed it with PWM.

So the main problem is to make an override, the ecu is controlling the speed with PWM.
So you can start the punp with the PMU but speed is only done by the ecu.

Hi,

You can activate the output as always ON.
The PWM Duty cycle will control the activation of the pump.
If the Duty cycle will be 1% or higher the pump will start.
If the Duty cycle will be 0%, the pump will turn off.

Additionally, you can use condition, for example, "Duty cycle > 10%" to set the threshold.

thanks for the input.

I set the pump as always on on the PMU, I have tried this before but after redoing some strategies on the ECU side the pump seemed to do what it was supposed to do. The car started up and actually idled with out throttle input. FIRST TIME IN 2 years. There is always an easy solution but the previous programming was way off base which lead me in many different direction.
